Since early June, we have been keeping our Vigil for Racial Justice at the Southampton Friends Meetinghouse on the corner of Street and Gravel Hill Roads in front of our sign saying “Injustice Anywhere Threatens Justice Everywhere.” We invite everyone to join
us and speak out for as much time as you can, each Sunday from 4:00-5:30PM. We’ll continue our weekly Vigil until significant change happens or we find a better way of working toward a loving and just solution to the systemic oppression manifested by the killing and unjust treatment of black and brown people in our country.
The Vigil is held on the grounds of the Southampton Friends Meeting at the NW corner of Street and Gravel Hill Roads in Upper Southampton, Bucks County. We ask that people wear masks, and we will practice physical distancing at the site. Please dress for the weather, and if you can, wear at least one article of black and/or message clothing. Bring something to kneel on if you wish.
Bring your own signs or use one of ours. Signs in small or faint lettering are not readable at 50 mph, which is typical on Street Road. We ask that people refrain from bringing partisan political signs, which could impact our non-profit status. Also, because there is disagreement within the movement as to what we want from the police and what our relationship with them should be, we ask that signs not mention police.
Please park in the upper or middle lot. There are rest rooms available and water if needed. We will gather in the middle lot or on the lawn at the beginning to ground ourselves for the Vigil. At 5:30 there will be a short optional debrief to see if there are lessons or insights from the day.
