Dear Friends,
Earth Quaker Action Team has two actions coming up that we think will be of special interest to Friends. If interested, visit http://EQAT.org
Indigenous Delegation Solidarity Action at Vanguard headquarters, Friday, September 23, 12 noon meet at Cedar Hollow Park, 785 Cedar Hollow Rd, Malvern, PA 19355.
Vanguard has no policy protecting Indigenous rights, but it has many investments that violate them, including in Chevron, Enbridge, and Petroperú. A delegation led by Achuar People – Indigenous peoples of the Peruvian Amazon – is coming to the U.S. and is asking Vanguard leadership for a meeting to share their specific concerns about the destructive plans of Petroperú, the latest oil company to covet their region. These leaders are asking Vanguard to end its complicity with Petroperú and protect Indigenous rights. Come join them in support!
Meeting for Worship Action, Friday, October 7, 11:30am, meet on the outbound side of the St David’s Train Station, 53 Chamounix Road (Near Lancaster Ave) Wayne, PA 19087. As part of a global week of climate action by people of faith, EQAT will walk to the suburban home of Vanguard CEO Tim Buckley, where we will hold meeting for worship. Open to people of all beliefs but grounded in Quaker silent worship, we will sincerely pray for the millions of people already suffering from climate destruction, for leaders like Tim Buckley to act boldly to prevent catastrophic suffering, and for our own courage as we seek to pressure Vanguard to change course. As it happens, this is also the 250th anniversary of the death of Quaker abolitionist John Woolman, who was willing to take actions that were uncomfortable when that was what he felt Spirit calling him to do, including visiting people at their homes. (Check out this article on how Woolman’s example is relevant to this action. https://quakerearthcare.org/following-spirit-despite-fear-remembering-john-woolman-in-the-vanguard-campaign Please try to join us on Saturday, October 1st for a training to prepare ourselves
